Three reasons to create a content marketing strategy
Do you feel like you’re on the content hamster wheel and struggling to come up with ideas for your content to be consistent with your marketing.
Do you recreate the wheel every time you open your blog, email or social media scheduler?
Do you struggle to understand what content is resonating with your audience, getting people onto your website or even helping you to sell your service or online course?
I come across a lot of business owners who don’t like to plan because it’s too structured, too rigid or loses the authenticity of creating content when the creative ideas flow. But having a strategy and a plan actually saves you time and makes your marketing more successful in the long run.
Here are three benefits to having a content marketing strategy:
1. You save time
Having a content marketing strategy means you are in control; you are consistent and you don’t worry about what you’re creating next week or next month.
You don’t get to the end of the week and have the guilts because you didn’t send your newsletter this week or you skipped your Live, or you only posted once about your cat having a nap on the car!
You stay focussed on what matters, so you are:
- Always creating content that is communicating your full understanding of the solution your ideal client is looking for, and
- Always creating content that tells the audience what you want to be known for and why you do what you do.
2. You get better results
A strategy means you have thought about your goals, what success looks like and all the steps you need to take to get to the result.
It means you can then measure against those results and analyse what is working and not working.
Without that you are likely to keep creating content that doesn’t work. Or creating loads and loads of value-added content, but not what actually tells people what you do, the solutions you have, or the bit that gets then to actually buy the stuff.
3. You show up consistently
I’ve mentioned this already but it’s that important I’m going to say it again.
A garden doesn’t grow unless you consistently water and nurture it every day.
Same with your marketing.
Growing an engaged audience takes time and effort to grow. Having a strategy that is long term will help you to understand all the steps you need to make to get where you need to be.
Don’t expect a magic wand. Marketing is really easy to understand and often complicated to execute. What works for one business doesn’t work for another. Your solution is unique to your audience. Being clear on your strategy will save you some time and effort but you still need to test and measure and see what works best.
